Summer 2016: Summer Must Go, Do & Stay!

Summer and fall are my favorite times of year to plan things for my family and for readers on my blogs. I thought it would be super helpful to have a page dedicated to our favorite summer places.   Over the next few weeks I’ll be adding some “Must Go, Do & Stay” spots for New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I hope you enjoy this resource and will share this post with your friends and family, too! If you have a favorite place your family has been to, please email me at [email protected] so I can add it to our resource page! Here’s to a happy and busy summer……….

Mount Washington Fall

Cruise Lake Winnipesaukee aboard the MS/Mount Washington:  from family night cruises to sunset dinner dances, the Historic M/S Mount Washington is on the “Summer Must Go, Do & Stay” list!

The beautiful Mount Washington Vessel has its footprint in NH. It’s beginning is rich in history and has offered many happy gatherings, parties, proposals and weddings throughout the years. There are many specials they offer which every family appreicates. Children 5 and under are free and they offer family rates as well!

There are many themed parties through October with even more special pricing. I’d like to point out that Wednesday night is kids cruise free aboard the Mount Washington. What a good time to introduce kids to the big lake.

Mount Washington Captain Kids

Our family recently went on Family Night for the first time and had an amazing night. It was something I wanted  to do as a family before my son left for his first year of college and we’re all so glad we did! I highly, highly, highly recommend this great excursion!

This is just one event I’ve shown you, but as I’ve mentioned there are many others that run from now through the foliage season. Here is their calendar of their Dinner Dance Cruises for 2016!

Loon Mountain Rope Adventure

Loon Mountain Adventure Center: One of our family’s favorite spots for fun! Aerial Forest, Mountain Bike Riding, Ziplining, Gondola Rides and more. If you’re an active family or like to watch your active family, this is a must for your summer and there is something for all levels of ages! For your smaller ones, you’ll find a maze, rock wall and bouncy fun. Head up to Lincoln for the day or make this stop part of your overnight vacation. We like to stay at Mountain Club on Loon and right at the base of the resort is where you’ll find Loon Mountain Advernture Center!

Bring a picnic lunch and treat yourself to ice cream after all your fun! Last fall we celebrated my nephew’s birthday here and brought a birthday cake to have with our lunch. We had lots of extra people joining in our birthday song and some even shared in on the cake with us!

They boys love the mountain bike riding and I love hiking so we met at a point along the river and stopped there for some swimming too.

You’ll just love it here, I’m sure!

Ogunquit Lobster Pound Sign

OGUNQUIT LOBSTER POUND:

We have been going to the Ogunquit Lobster Pound for over 20 summers, we and are glad to place them on our list of our “Summer Must Go, Do & Stay!”

Desiring lobster for dinner? Here at the pound you’ll be able to choose your own lobster, see it weighed and priced to the ounce. Your lobster will be cooked to perfection in a pot of seawater that is pumped in directly from the Ogunquit River.

At the Pound you can enjoy a feast of delicious seafood or choose an alternative main course from a wide variety of fabulous dishes sure to please everyone! We always start our dinner with steamers, which are just as popular as the lobsters ordered at many tables. One delicious dish that at least one person at our table will order is the Lobster Alfredo. Gosh, so rich, creamy and loaded with lobster! We’ve ordered ribs with the sweet sauce, delicious. My daughter actually ordered a Caesar Salad Wrap with steak tips and wanted to go back the next day to have it again. Any choice here is a good one and there’s no time like the summer to enjoy a great Maine lobster!
Lobster Pound Outside WaitingThe atmosphere is comfortable and has plenty of outdoor space for you and/or for your younger children if there’s a wait time. Enjoy the outdoor summer evenings and watch the action at the lobster pound pool while waiting for your table.

We’ll be going here plenty of times over the summer, who knows, maybe we’ll see you there!

Meadowmere Resort

THE MEADOWMERE RESORT:

Do you love Maine like I do? If you haven’t explored Maine, it’s time you get there! An affordable, much loved hotel to stay at, is Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit. Discover a Roman Spa, outdoor and indoor pool, garden rooms, jacuzzi rooms, fitness center, spa, a movie theater and more.

Meadowmere is in such a perfect central location. It’s only a block from the beach and walking distance to fantastic restaurants. Shopping is close by and the beautiful Marginal Way and Perkins Cove is near as well. The trolley runs in June, is available through the season and can be hopped on at the hotel’s street corner.

My mom, daughter and I spent Mother’s Day weekend there and would have loved to stay even longer.  We’ve been here a few times already, but we know that we’ll be going to Meadowmere Resort every Mother’s Day in years to come. There’s plenty of positive notes on their Facebook page  and on Trip Adviser too!

Meadowmere Resort is a great place to stay this summer and all year long.   Take the time to look at their site and while your there, enter the getaway giveaway they have too!

Santa's Village Santa and Mrs

SANTA’S VILLAGE:
Santa’s Village is a Christmas-themed amusement park with rides, live reindeer, live shows, shops, restaurants, a waterpark and more.

Santa's Village Tea Cups

Last year I took my 8 year old niece, my best friend and her little girl to Santa’s Village. We absolutely love the magic of Christmas and we had the best day together at Santa’s Village! It was such a treat for me to take Alysiana that we made sure we did all the extras including decorating our Gingerbread cookies first thing in the morning. It’s funny how everything can seem magical in the month of July!

Santa's Village Reindeer

We hit every ride, took all the our pictures at the photo stops, visited with Santa and got our photo with him, sang lots of Christmas songs with the park music, ate the most warm delicious donuts and laughed a ton! We arrived when the park opened and stayed until they closed keeping busy the whole time. My friend, Dawn and I are kids at heart too, but we sincerely had a blast! I wouldn’t be surprised if us and the kids are somewhere in future video footage of families having fun at Santa’s Village!

Santa's Village Sign

Santa’s Village has a website filled with great info such as some extra events and some seasonal events during the year. They also offer a “return pass” which is when guests arrive to the park during the last 3 hours of operation, they can receive a return pass to head back and visit the park for a full day!
Their Facebook page is definitely recommended to follow as well for information and fun photos.

foxwoods resort

FOXWOODS RESORT CASINO:

Many of you know Foxwoods Resort Casino as a casino. Well, certainly it is, but it is an amazing resort as well with pools, arcades, spas, bowling, museum, Tanger Outlets, comedy shows, events, theatre and so much more!

A couple summers ago, we took the family to Foxwoods. I had a feeling there was going to be enough to keep everyone busy, and it turns out there was so much keeping us busy that we didn’t even get to do everything I had set out to do with the family!

DSCF0377We stayed in the Fox Tower Hotel. There are four hotels on site, but this one had the outdoor pool. The Concierge is so attentive. If you have a special occasion, let them know. They can help you set up a nice surprise for your loved ones. They’re there to help you plan your trip at the resort and around the area as well.

We loved our welcome message in our windows when we walked into the room. The kids got a kick out of it! They also found a huge tray of cookies, milk, popcorn and candy too! Camden, my 11 year old, announced Foxwoods was his favorite hotel!
Foxwoods art messageWe spent the entire afternoon at the pool.  Junior’ s Restaurant is right off the pool and they have waitresses come along to take your order. The food here is very good. We had a fun day!  The kids also got a bonus that day when they saw the their favorite jokesters, from the show Impractical Jokers.

DSCF0398Our day could have ended then with smiles on everyone’s faces, but it wasn’t over yet. We made our way to the Theater to see the Legends perform. It was a super show and I swear I was looking right at the real Michael Jackson. They were great impressionists.

DSCF0443High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge is another huge highlight of our trip! It certainly isn’t like a bowling alley like I’ve ever seen! It was AMAZING! There were comfy loungers, TV’s EVERYWHERE!!! They even had big screen TV’s framed all along the back wall. Could you image Sunday football here? WOW! We ordered a couple pizzas, some delicious buffalo chicken tenders on a stick and the most scrumptious lobster dip!

Whether you go to Foxwoods as a family, as a couple or by yourself, you’ll feel how grande your surroundings are.We could have easily stayed a couple more days with the family.  There are other attractions nearby the resort for the family to experience. On Sunday we went to the Mystic Aquarium-home of the Beluga Whales and Foxwoods Sea Lion live show. Next to the aquarium is the Olde Mistick Village with over 60 shops, there’s also Mystic Seaport where you can board a whaling ship and explore America’s largest maritime museum.
