Top 10+ Destinations When You Visit Ogunquit, York & Wells, Maine!

Maine is one of our favorite destinations! Today I’ll share some of our favorite picks we’ve enjoyed and repeated for many years in Ogunquit, York and Wells, Maine! I will say, I am a creature of habit when I go to Maine. But, when you’ve had great experiences time after time, year after year, why change what’s been amazing?

Meadowmere ResortThe Meadowmere Resort: To be so close to the shopping, restaurants and the ocean; this is one of our favorite places to stay. The rooms range from traditional rooms to beautiful suites with fireplaces and jacuzzi hot tubs to the Honeymoon Suite. They have an indoor pool, outdoor hot tub and, my favorite, the Roman Spa. Six months out of the year take advantage of the Continental Breakfast. During peak season, take the trolley to many points. Off season, everything is just minutes away in your car.  One of the  rooms of my choice is ground floor by the garden. You can sit out on the patio chairs in the garden area, walk easily to the hot tub, indoor pool or Roman Spa. A very pretty spot to get immersed in your getaway. The trolley stop is on the corner and is fun to take to tour around the town. There are some accommodations for larger families that the staff can assist you with. Also, from Labor Day through the end of June you can get some wonderful stay and dine packages with Jonathan’s Restaurant, Old Village Inn and M.C. Perkins Cove.

Jonathan’s Restaurant: Right next door to Meadowmere Resort is Jonathan’s Restaurant. The atmosphere is lovely and quaint. You can dress up or dine casually. The first time we dined there, we received a lot of recommendations. Someone from Meadowmere recommended the Baked Stuffed Haddock and if we liked steak, we were told we couldn’t go wrong with any choice. Our greeter at the restaurant suggested the Maple Salmon, which has been on the menu the longest of any entrees. We started with Lobster Stew and Shrimp Cocktail. For our entrees we chose the Baked Stuffed Haddock and the Rib Eye. All were exquisite. It was the best Haddock we’ve ever had. The stuffing was made with scallops and shrimp and cooked with a white wine. The steak, you can cut with a butter knife and it will melt in your mouth. As I mentioned, we’re a creature of habit once we found something we loved. This spot and entrees will definitely be repeated many times over the years! Oh, did I mention the Creme Brulee is an amazing dessert choice, too!

lobster-poundOgunquit Lobster Pound: This is one of those places that our family has gone to for over 20 years. Though they are well known for their lobsters and are spoken about just as highly for their steamers,  their menu is filled with other tasty foods.  Try their fall off the bone Baby Back Ribs, their Lobster Alfredo, Marinated Steak Tip Caesar Salad Wrap or many other choices. Trust me, it will be the hardest decision of your day.

congdons-donutsCongdon’s Donuts: This is what God intended when he said, “Let there be donuts!” Seriously, nothing else needs to be said about this place, except GO!

dscf4711Wells Beach on Webhannet Dr: Visit this beach at low tide and more often than not you’ll see many seals out on the rocks. It’s also a beautiful spot to watch the sunrise.

marginal-wayMarginal Way: One of the most popular walking paths in Ogunquit. Here is a paved walkway where you can stroll and view the beautiful coastline on one side of you and amazing homes and gardens on the other side of you. With over 50 memorial benches along the 1-1/4 mile path, there are many spots to sit and take notice of breathtaking views and pose for photos. Begin or end your stroll at Perkins Cove and enjoy a cocktail and some steamers at one of the restaurants or do a little shopping in one of the shops.

barnicle-billysBarnacle Billys: Located in Perkins Cove, Billy’s has extensive seating indoor and sundeck seating where guests can enjoy the beauty of the harbor and the ocean beyond. Treat yourself to a frozen drink, lobsters, chowder and more. I love sitting on the deck and taking everything in around me. The atmosphere and food is more than impressive. Park in their valet parking lot for just a tip to the attendant. There are two locations, that are side by side. The one by the parking lot is one where you order at the counter and dine in the restaurant or on the wrap around deck. They serve more of the basics: chowders, lobsters, lobster rolls, desserts. Next door,  you’ll find baked stuffed lobsters, steaks and much more on their extensive menu. Both spots are delicious, it’s just a preference of simple menu or extensive menu and if you want to be served or not. I recently had the lobster stew and I’ve never had so much lobster in lobster stew. It was scrumptious!nubble-lightNubble Light-Cape Neddick Lighthouse: Here is a spot you’ll find photographers, painters, scuba divers and your typical site-seeing visitor. From sunrise to sunset it’s a beautiful and peaceful place to be.  In the mood for ice cream? Visit the front of Fox’s Lobster House and choose from many flavors of ice cream to enjoy while viewing the lighthouse and surroundings.

stageneck-innShearwater at Stage Neck Inn:  Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Shearwater has incredible views, modern coastal decor and an incredible selection of dining portions and fresh flavor combinations. Truly, this a place where once you’ve been here, you’ll be planning your next visit. The breakfast buffet has the most amazing french toast you’ll ever have and when you top it with the oversized berries, you’ll want time to stand still. (The french toast is on the buffet every other day). The Eggs Benedict is cooked to perfection. There are several other breakfast items included on the buffet that will make everyone happy. If a buffet isn’t what you desire, their menu is sure to meet your standards as well.

ogunquit-playhouseOgunquit Playhouse: From musicals, to children’s classics, to comedy, to the Ogunquit Brew Fest, the playhouse has housed many shows and events and continues to do so with great choices every season.

old-village-innOld Village Inn: Though we’ve never stayed overnight, we have frequented the Inn for dinner and drinks many times over the years, even way back before children! The atmosphere is cozy and warm . My husband and I have had many romantic dinners here and also have gone in casually for appetizers and drinks. It’s always been a great spot to go to at the end of a fantastic day to wind down and just enjoy each other’s company with some great food and specialty drinks.

If traveling from June 25th-Columbus Day get around the towns on the Trolley.  Take your beach chairs and head to the beach. Get a ride to Perkin’s Cove and don’t worry about parking. Just tour the area and sit back and enjoy!

Looking for fun along the board walk, head to Short Sands where you’ll find arcades, a candy shop, Golden Rod Kisses,  where you can watch Salt Water Taffy being made in front of you, York Wild Kingdom Zoo & Amusement Park and more.

A recent find I found for shopping for some high end women’s clothing is a cute little boutique called Twice As Nice.   They also carry, some home items. I was more than impressed and glad to hear she is open year round.

We hope you enjoy yourselves as much as we do and that these places and tips come in handy for you!
