One of my favorite children’s books is Fairy Houses (The Fairy Houses Series) by Tracy Kane. Fairy Houses is a book about a young girl who goes with her family on a vacation in Maine. While on vacation, she decides to build a fairy house in the woods using only those things that come from nature. Along the way she finds that all sorts of different birds and animals are using her fairy house. On the last day of her vacation, she receives an enchanted surprise! The fairies come to thank her for respecting Nature and helping their animal friends.
Every year the kids and I build our own Fairy House. This year we made our house with sticks, seashells, sand, grass and anything else that the kids could find in our yard. I must confess that I cheat when making our Fairy Houses. I use a small bird house as the base to our family’s fairy house (about $2 at our local craft store). I then use a hot glue gun to attach sticks, sea shells, etc. to the house. While I do give the kids full creative control of the house, I am the only one who is allowed to use the glue gun 🙂
Our house is sitting outside under our favorite tree. My kids can’t wait for Tinkerbell to stop by their Fairy House for a visit. We hope our favorite fairy enjoys her New Hampshire Summer Home!
