Pool Noodle Lightsabers: We were at the Franklin Park Zoo for May the 4th Be with You Day and while there I saw a few kids walking around with pool noodle lightsabers. Their mom directed me to Dollar Store Mom’s awesome site for directions on how to make them (all you need is a pool needle, tape and a serated knife). I think her pool noodle invention is absolutely genius! These are really simple and inexpensive to make. My favorite thing about the pool noodle lightsabers is that they are soft and safe to let the kids run around with!
I snapped this picture right after we made our lightsabers. Check out the very serious poses!
The Force is with these children 🙂
Storm Trooper Milk Jug: This next idea is from Living Locurto! We were inspired by Living Locurto and decided to repurpose our milk jugs into Storm Troopers. This was a bigger hit than I could have imagined. My son spent at least 30 minutes fighting the Storm Trooper with his pool noodle light saber!
After our Storm Trooper milk jug was defeated we moved on to water balloons! We used our Storm Trooper to play catch with water balloons. You could also use your repurposed jug to play a game of catch with a ball, splash ball, and more.
Finally, we were inspired by We Got Kidz‘s toy scooper, so we decided to use our Storm Trooper milk jug as a toy scooper and as storage for our lightsabers. Check out Keesha’s Spring Cleaning post for some wonderful ideas for organizing. I think her milk jug toy scooper is inspired! Add a Storm Trooper to her great idea and you’ll turn the mundane task of cleaning into a intergalactic adventure 😉
