A NASCAR Fan is Born

NASCAR 4

This post was inspired by Fanatics “Future Fanatics Campaign”.  Fanatics recognizes that team loyalty often begins at an early age and they wanted to see how the superfans of tomorrow get their start.  Living in New England there are so many sports teams that our family loves and cheers on.  We have the NH Fisher Cats, the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Manchester Monarchs…and I could go on!  So, why did I pick NASCAR to write about?  I am writing about NASCAR because it is a sport that is new to both me and my children.  We have evolved into NASCAR fans as a family.  There is something very special about experiencing the excitement of a race for the first time right along with my children.

I recently saw my first NASCAR Race at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  To be honest, the only reason I went was to see my father-in-law, who was at the race because of his work with Speedway Charities.  I was pretty confident that my kids (especially my son) would enjoy the races but I didn’t really think that I would.  Well, I was wrong.

The excitement of the fans and all of the fanfare surrounding the race completely sucked my family in.  NASCAR fans are such a vibrant group of people that you can’t help but have fun around them.  I was greatly impressed with their love of country, of God and of a good race.  Prior to every race a prayer is said for the safety of the drivers, for the safety of our service men and women and in thanksgiving for God’s many blessings.  This moment of prayer stuck with me and my children throughout the day.  It is truly a beautiful thing when thousands of fans can unite together in one silent moment of love and gratitude.

Prayerful silence is golden but brief at a NASCAR Race and soon enough cars were zooming around the track.  My kids were so impressed with the speed of the cars and the skill of the drivers.  I am so grateful that we were able to spend the day at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, see our first NASCAR Race and hang out with good people.

I would like to say a BIG thank you to my father-in-law, also known as Papa, for giving us this wonderful experience.  I also want to thank our new friend at Roush Fenway Racing.   Roush Fenway Racing was nice enough to give us a little tour of their amazing truck and a look at their racing uniforms.  My son now loves Roush Fenway Racing and is still wearing his Roush Fenway Racing hat.  A Fun Fact About Roush Fenway Racing is that John Henry is one of its co-owners.  I love the New England connection!

While at the race I was also able to learn about Speedway Charities.  Speedway Charities is made up of a fantastic group of people (to include my father-in-law).  They host events to raise money for children in need throughout New England.  I will be writing more about Speedway Charities and filling you in on their great family friendly events over the next few months.  In the meantime, please take a look at their website!
