At its 30th birthday last year, the Children’s Museum of NH made a promise to invest in an upgrade of The Yellow Submarine, an exhibit beloved by several generations of visitors. After a yearlong fundraising effort, the museum is ready to “relaunch” the Yellow Sub this fall. Children will be able to use a new, interactive dive simulator with 3D technology and enjoy original artwork depicting the underwater environment of Cashes Ledge in the Gulf of Maine, creating an immersive experience of piloting the Sub.
The evening celebration of the Yellow Submarine relaunch on September 20 will include cocktails, food prepared by local chefs, and dancing to live music by The Spectras. Adults will be able to “play” in the museum without kids in tow and take a test drive of the Yellow Submarine themselves. All proceeds from this event will help put finishing touches on the exhibit area.
With a history spanning five decades, The Spectras have played major music venues throughout the Seacoast and appeared on television and radio. Their signature sound combining rock, soul, and rhythm-and-blues has been heard at the Casino Ballroom, the Hampton Beach Seashell Stage, Prescott Park and the Cochecho Arts Festival. The band was formed at the University of New Hampshire in 1964 and has kept the music going with a variety of dedicated musicians. They are known for getting audiences on their feet with great dance tunes from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. This will be their last-ever performance so tickets are already selling fast.
