Internet Safety with HiFiKiddo

The internet is an invaluable resource.  It enables families and friends to connect across the globe instantaneously, it puts knowledge at your fingertips, keeps you up to date on current events and so much more.  Because of its undeniable benefits, it is very important that we teach our children not only to use the internet but to use it safely.

The world wide web can be daunting for its younger users and rightfully so.  There is a lot of information out there that is both good and bad.  As parents, we need to guide our children, teaching them the do’s and don’t’s of the internet.

My children are very young and have limited screen time.  Despite their limited exposure to the internet, our family still emphasizes internet safety.  Our family has a few golden rules which we live by in order to protect and teach our children.

• Parental Controls: We set parental controls on all of our devices.  Our parental controls include the ability to block websites and restrict search parameters.
• Use Kid Safe Search Engines and Social Media Platforms: There are several available search engines that are made with kids in mind.  Likewise, HiFiKiddo is a wonderful Social Media Platform that is designed with the protection of kids in mind!
• Set Family Rules (and Firmly Stand by Them!):
  • Rule 1: We set time limits on screen time.
  • Rule 2: The internet must be used in a public space such as the family room or kitchen.

  • Rule 4: Never give out any personal information to anyone on the internet.
  • Rule 5: Use good internet etiquette.  Be as kind and courteous to someone on the internet as you would be to them in person.
