Pine Hill Waldorf School – First Grade

Even though your child is leaving kindergarten, you don’t have to leave the warm, nurturing environment that gave your child his/her educational start. First grade at the Pine Hill Waldorf School in Wilton is built on a truly holistic and developmentally appropriate curriculum that engages the children’s intrinsic sense of wonder in a beautiful, unhurried classroom.

Pine Hill first-graders learn in an environment that integrates the arts (music, rhythm and verse, story telling, drawing and painting) into daily learning of mathematic principles and literacy, as well as the introduction of two additional languages. Learning involves movement and the foundations of science through nature stories and outdoor exploration.

“I was attracted to Pine Hill and Waldorf education by its respect of childhood,” says Kara Steere, a parent of a second-grader and soon-to-be first-grader. “My children are immersed in learning without being evaluated by a standardized test. Pine Hill’s teachers offer many ways to learn, and the kids are supported socially, physically, emotionally and through all of their senses.”

Learn more at the “Why Waldorf First Grade” experiential evening. There, Pine Hill teachers will present an overview of the Waldorf curriculum, focusing on first grade and how it sets a foundation for the years to come. We will also discuss the application process, including how use play to determine first grade readiness. All parents are welcome, even if your child will not be old enough to enter first grade in the fall. Questions? Contact Jessica Hipp at [email protected] or 603-654-6003 x308.
