Celebrate Chinese New Year

On February 19th we welcomed the Year of the Goat and celebrated Chinese New Year.  The tradition of Chinese New Year has been around for thousands of years and it came about as a way to mark the end of winter and beginning of Spring.  As such, Chinese New Year is also referred to as the Spring Festival.

While February 19th has passed, Chinese New Year can still be celebrated!  As our state is predominantly covered in snow, I think it’s safe to say that Spring has not quite arrived to New Hampshire yet.  New Hampshire is in desperate need of a Spring Festival to celebrate the end of a very long winter.  Celebrating, an albeit belated, Chinese New Year is a great way to welcome Spring and teach children about other cultures.

In preparation for Chinese New Year homes are traditionally decorated with Mandarin Trees for good luck.  Can’t find a mandarin tree?  No problem!  Pick up some Dole Mandarin Oranges to celebrate.  They’re delicious and who knows, perhaps they’ll bring us some good luck and melt all that snow.  You can sign up for Dole’s Newsletter at this link.  With their Newsletter you’ll receive coupons, find out about sweepstakes and giveaways, get Dole updates and more!

For a New Year’s Feast you can enjoy Chinese New Year Rice.  There are many amazing recipes available at Minute’s Ricepe Club.  Join Minute’s Club at this link.  With your free membership you will receive coupons, special offers, be able to win sweepstakes, giveaways, and more!  You will also find some great recipes by signing up for Kikkoman News.  Kikkoman will send you the latest recipes and entertaining tips.

I hope you are able to celebrate Chinese New Year with family and loved ones.
