What to clean piercing with?
To clean your piercing, use one of these methods:
- Warm Sea Salt Soaks.
- Morton Fine Grind Mediterranean Sea Salt, 4.4 oz.
- Sterile Saline Sprays.
- Mild Liquid Soap.
- DO NOT USE Rubbing Alcohol or Hydrogen Peroxide.
- DO NOT USE Antibiotic Ointments.
- DO NOT USE Bactine® and Ear Piercing Solutions with BZK (Benzalkonium chloride)
Should I wash my piercing with soap?
Cleaning With Soap Once per day you should clean your piercing with a mild soap. Soaps containing the ingredient triclosan should be avoided. In addition to cleaning with soap, you should use daily salt soaks to improve healing.
Can I use soap to clean my ear piercing?
Wash with warm water and gentle soap before you touch your piercing to avoid introducing bacteria to the area. Clean with a clean cotton pad or swab dipped in salt solution. Use this around the pierced area a few times a day to remove any bacteria.
What can I use to clean my piercing if I don’t have sea salt?
It is best to use table non-iodized salt instead of sea, rock or coarse types of salt as those do not dissolve well and have other minerals and impurities that might interfere with wound healing.
Is antibacterial soap bad for piercings?
Soaps should never be used directly on or in your piercing. No antibacterial soaps! Dial Gold (and other soap alike) is no longer recommended for use in piercing aftercare.
Can I use contact saline solution to clean my piercing?
No, you don’t use any saline solution for piercing. Contact saline solutions are not for piercing purposes. You can use piercing saline solution for cleaning the piercing.
Can I clean my piercing with just water?
To make sure the healing process goes as smoothly as possible, wash your hands before you touch your piercing or jewelry. Don’t soak your piercing in any water (other than saline solution) until it’s fully healed.
How can I make my piercing heal faster?
USE WARM SEA SALT WATER (SALINE) SOAKS – MORNING AND EVENING Soaking your piercing with a warm, mild sea salt water solution will not only feel good, it will also help prevent infection, reduce the risk of scarring, and speed the healing of your piercing.
Can I use Dove to clean my piercing?
DO NOT use moisturizing soaps like Dove and Olay or antibacterials like Dial. These soap additives leave a residue that builds up in piercing and can contribute to irritation bumps.
Can I use Dawn dish soap to clean my piercing?
NO ALCOHOL! DISH SOAP ONLY! The most important thing you should do when you receive jewelry from anywhere is to clean it. Acrylic balls will crack and plating with fade but the bacteria on your jewelry will stay no matter how many times you use alcohol on it.
What saline solution is good for piercings?
Make sure you look for a solution that has no preservatives and is labeled as an "iso-tonic saline" or "0.9% sterile solution." Avoid saline solutions that are meant to be used for nasal irrigation and contact lens solution, as they contain preservatives that could irritate your piercing.
Can I use rubbing alcohol to clean my piercing?
General Care for Body Piercings Always wash hands thoroughly before contact with piercing. Do not use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. (Both slow the healing of pierced area by drying and killing new healthy cells.)
Should you twist new piercings?
Don’t touch a new piercing or twist the jewelry unless you’re cleaning it. Keep clothing away from the piercing, too. Excessive rubbing or friction can irritate your skin and delay healing. Keep the jewelry in place.
