Toddlerfest at the Children’s Museum of NH

Hi Friends, Here’s an article shared by the Children’s Museum of NH.  As I am the mother of a few toddlers, I love that the Museum is having a Toddlerfest!  Read the below for more information.

(Dover, NH – September 6, 2013) – Now that big kids are back in school, the Children’s Museum of NH has created two weeks of events focused on children who are preschool age and younger. The museum’s third annual Toddlerfest takes place during the last two weeks of September and includes different activities and special guests each day, culminating with the museum’s 30th birthday celebration on Sunday, September 29.

Here is a list of what will be happening at the Children’s Museum of NH during Toddlerfest 2013, all included with paid museum admission:

Saturday, September 14:  At 10 am, families can join in the Anyone Can Grow Food gardening program and help harvest produce in the museum’s outdoor garden. All-day activities will include chalk drawing, bubbles, color and shape sorting games, and sensory table play.

Sunday, September 15: Visitors are invited to enjoy Storytime Sunday at 2 pm, and everyone can make streamer wand and scribble drawings.

Monday, September 16:  Museum closed

Tuesday, September 17: It’s Dino Day at the Children’s Museum, featuring stories, songs, activities and games all about dinosaurs. It’s also time for the museum’s first-ever Stuffed Animal Sleepover: kids can drop off a stuffed animal for a sleepover at the museum, then pick up their animal the next day and find out all about their overnight adventures.

Wednesday, September 18:  At 10 am, the museum will welcome staff from Wentworth-Douglass Hospital to answer parents’ child development and behavior questions.  At 1 pm, there will be a staff-led story time, and color mixing will be the featured hands-on activity of the day. Kids who dropped off an animal for a museum sleepover can pick them up anytime today.

Thursday, September 19:  From 10:30 – 11:30 am, parents and children can participate in All Together Now, a music workshop led by Marissa Ruffini of Sonatina Music Therapy. At 11:30, kids can gather for a short Science Bite activity and from 1-2 pm, everyone can shake their sillies out. There will also be good clean fun available all day long with a water table where children can wash trucks and baby dolls.

Friday, September 20:  It’s Fairytale Friday! Kids are invited to wear their favorite costume, make a fancy crown and hear some favorite fairytales read out loud. At 11:30 am, there will be a short Science Bites experiment.

Saturday, September 21:  Visitors can make butterfly art all day, enjoy a hands-on Science Bite activity at 11 am and shake their sillies out with music from 1-3 pm.

Sunday, September 22: Today’s special creative activity will be making streamer wands to take home. There will also be a “colorful” Story Time with Meredith and Stu at 2 pm.

Monday, September 23: Museum closed

Tuesday, September 24: Everyone can make a sound shaker to take home today. There will also be a story reading at 11:30 am and a songs-and-movement session at 1 pm.

Wednesday, September 25: From 10 am – 12 noon, visitors can drop in for a special nutrition workshop presented by Hannaford Supermarkets in partnership with the Children’s Museum of NH. Pediatric dietician Laura Long and Hannaford dietician Heidi Kerman will be on hand to answer food-related questions and explain different ways to introduce new foods.  At 1 pm, there will be a story reading, and shaving cream play will be available all day long.

Thursday, September 26: From 10:30 – 11:30 am, parents and children can participate in All Together Now, a music workshop led by Marissa Ruffini of Sonatina Music Therapy. There will be a Science Bite activity at 11:30 am, and everyone can shake their sillies out from 1-2 pm. Chalk and bubble play will also be available all day.

Friday, September 27: It’s Fairytale Friday! Kids are invited to wear their favorite costume, make a fancy crown and hear some favorite fairytales read out loud. Childlight Yoga will lead two parent-child classes: Tot Yoga for babies crawling – age 24 months and from 10:15-10:45 am, and Little Family Yoga for children ages 21 months – 4 years old. At 11:30 am, there will be a short Science Bites experiment, and kids can make fairy dust to take home.

Saturday, September 28: – All day, kids can make pretend pizzas and play matching/sorting games. At 11 am, everyone can shake their sillies out, and there will be a story reading at 1 pm.

Sunday, September 29 – All are invited to the museum’s 30th Birthday Party! Enjoy performances by children’s musician (and preschool teacher) from Maine, Danny Lion, at 12:30 and 2 pm, plus face painting, crown making, cake and ice cream. There will also be a special birthday-themed Story Time with Meredith and Stu at 3 pm.

September also marks the return of the museum’s First Friends Playgroup for parents with babies up to 24 months old on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 – 11 am, and Wee Ones Wednesdays for children ages 2-4 with a parent or caregiver at 9:45 or 10:45 am on Wednesday.
