Discover the Dinosaurs is Coming Back to Boston

039

My family made the trek into Boston two years ago to visit the dinosaurs at the Seaport World Trade Center.  While the dinosaurs were cool we did run into a few glitches during our visit.  Below are my thoughts on Discover the Dinosaurs.  Hopefully they’ll help you to have a more enjoyable experience!  (I should note that my kids did not care about any of these glitches and still had a good time.)

My Thoughts and Tips :

1. Purchase your tickets ahead of time!  Even though I had already bought tickets (and we arrived at opening) my family and I still had to wait in about a 20 minute line that wrapped outside of the building – brrrrr!  (I should correct this by saying that my very kind husband waited in line for us while the kids and I huddled inside.)    I can imagine this process would have only been longer if I hadn’t pre-purchased tickets.

2. Call ahead and see if the box office knows of a quiet (or at least quieter) time to visit the dinosaurs.  Last year we got there as they opened and the place was swamped.  The crowd was truly overwhelming (at least to me and my husband).  My kids still loved seeing the dinosaurs but I found the maneuvering through the crowd with my crew to be very stressful.

3. Consider whether or not you want to purchase Exhibit Hall or Exhibit Plus tickets.  Last year when my family and I went they did not offer the Exhibit Plus Option. So my family and I paid regular admission prices, which at the time were $12 for children and $17 for adults.  This got us into the exhibits to see all the dinosaurs but if we wanted to participate in some of the additional activities such as the dino rides we would have to buy separate tickets.  At the time I decided not to buy tickets for any of the additional attractions because the line to do so was simply too long (much to the disappointment of my children).

This year Discover the Dinosaurs is offering two different types of admissions tickets (I think this is a good idea as it does streamline the process).  Make sure to look at both of these options prior to purchasing your tickets.  Exhibit Hall Tickets are $18 for children 2-12 years old and $20 for ages 13 and up.  Exhibit Hall Plus Tickets are are $25 for ages 2-12 years old.

Exhibit Hall Plus tickets include admission to the Dinosaur Exhibit, Dino Dig, Dino Den, Dino Theatre, Dino Coloring Station, Scavenger Hunt, Unlimited Dinosaur Rides, Mini Golf and Inflatables.

Exhibit Only tickets include Dinosaur Exhibit, Dino Dig, Dino Den, Dino Theater, Dino Coloring Station and Scavenger Hunt. (Individual ride tickets may be purchased for $5-$6.)

Great advice. We had the same frustrations last year. Also, bring snacks or p,an lunch before or after. Concessions were expensive, and the dinosaur chicken my kids ordered were very over cooked.

Thanks Alison, I do remember the concessions being very pricey and wishing that we had packed lunches!
