April Visitors to the Children’s Museum of NH: Bears, Monsters and a Mischievous Monkey

(Dover, NH) During the month of April, the Children’s Museum of NH is welcoming a bunch of characters, all related to children’s literature. Two book launch events plus a visit from a perennial storybook favorite will highlight the museum’s commitment to promoting early literacy and getting kids excited about reading.

Author and illustrator AJ Smith of Newburyport will introduce his new book, Even Monsters, at the Children’s Museum of NH on April 6 at 1 pm.

On Sunday, April 6 at 1 pm, author and illustrator A.J. Smith will visit the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire to introduce his new book, Even Monsters. Smith, who resides in Newburyport, MA, teaches art and creates cartoons for shows like Sesame Street and Courage the Cowardly Dog. He enjoys writing and illustrating stories for kids. His newest picture book, Even Monsters, shows kids that even monsters put on clean underwear every morning and need a kiss goodnight before bed. More information about A.J. Beloved book characters Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat will visit the Children’s Museum of NH on Saturday, April 12 from 10 – 2.

Monkey business is bound to ensue on Saturday, April 12 when Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat make a return visit to the Children’s Museum, sponsored by Fidelity Investments. From 10 am – 2 pm, the popular duo will be at the museum to read stories, greet fans, pose for pictures and even share a hug or high-five. There will also be monkey-themed creative projects for kids to enjoy, and special literacy activities provided by NH Public Television, media partner for this Books Alive program event.

Not to be outdone by monsters and monkeys, author and illustrator Jeannie Brett will introduce her new book, Wild About Bears, at the Children’s Museum on Saturday, April 26 at 11 am and 1 pm. Based in nearby York, Maine, Brett is the illustrator of many popular children’s books, including My Cat Coon Cat, L is for Lobster, and Fishing for Numbers. As part of her visit to the museum, Brett will be reading from her new book about the eight different types of bears, giving an illustration demonstration, offering bear mask-making, and she will have a friendly costumed bear with her to meet young guests. All three of these children’s literacy events are included with regular paid admission to the museum ($9 adults/children, $8 seniors, no charge for children under one year old) and free for Children’s Museum of NH members. No reservations are required.
