Last week I had the honor of watching the incredibly talented Kids Coop Theatre’s cast of Shrek The Musical rehearse. These kids were phenomenal and SO MUCH FUN!  Their energy makes you want to get up and sing and dance right along with them.  The 48-member cast is comprised of children ages 8 through 18 who come from ten different towns spanning Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts.

In between numbers I was able to meet and speak with a few of the cast members to include Alex Herron who plays Shrek and Zoie Laskiewicz and Sarah Rodgers who play Fiona in her respective princess and ogre forms.  These local teenagers were delightful and so talented.  They complement each other on stage, leaving you wanting to hear them sing more.  I’m looking forward to seeing these leading ogres on stage in a few weeks!

Another character who is not to be missed is the Dragon.  The Dragon is extraordinary for two reasons.  The first is the amazing voice of the Dragon, Emily Dewolf.  This girl’s got talent.  Go hear her sing!

The second reason this dragon is so extraordinary is the amazing puppetry involved in making the dragon come to life.  Nathan Vinson and his family created a GIANT dragon puppet that will take the stage in Shrek The Musical.  While explaining what went into designing and constructing the dragon, Nathan made a point of stressing that this was truly a family effort.  Vinson Family, I am so impressed with you and your creation.  I cannot wait to see the dragon on stage!  I honestly think that every child in the audience will be enamored with this bigger than life creature.  To quote my children who saw the below picture, “That Dragon is so cool!”

The Vinson family and their contribution to this production goes to the heart of what the Kids Coop Theatre is all about.  At its core, “The KCT is a cooperative organization that recognizes the importance of family involvement.  With the exception of the professional artistic directors that they hire, every job from set construction to costume design to tickets sales, as well as the management of the organization is performed by dedicated parent volunteers.”

I would encourage everyone to go out and see The Kids Coop Theatre’s production of Shrek The Musical.  I think your children will love the hilarious story of Shrek and his loveable crew of fairytale misfits.  I’m confident that Shrek The Musical will prove to be a truly enjoyable time at the theatre!

Shrek The Musical will be performed May 22nd at 7pm, May 23rd at 7pm and May 24th at 1pm and 7pm at the Derry Opera House, 29 West Broadway, Derry, NH.  All tickets are $12 and are available at www.kids-coop-theatre.org

Discounted group tickets are available for groups of 10 or more for the Saturday matinee only and include reserved seating and a meet and greet with the cast and crew.
