LEGO Mania

We are a LEGO household…My kids love LEGO books, movies, and of course building with LEGO’s.  With our February Vacation coming up in a few days I thought I’d highlight some of the LEGO themed fun you can have with the kids (did I mention that many of these are FREE?)!  Also, once you’ve worked up an appetite from all of that LEGO fun you can head over to T-Bones where the kids can eat for FREE (from February 24th-26th).  How’s that for a fun-filled day on a budget?

  • The LEGO Movie: Go Check out The LEGO Movie with the kids!  It will probably still be cold next week so why not pass the time at the movies with some popcorn.  Note: I always check out Common Sense Media prior to taking my kids to see a movie.  I’ve found it to be a good resource for determining the age-appropriateness of a film.
    • Chunky’s Cinema and Pub: If you’re considering going to the movies this February Vacation be sure to check out Kids’ Night at Chunky’s on Tuesdays.  Beginning at 5pm Chunky’s is offering a free kid’s meal with the purchase of an adult entree.  Also, remember that children ages 4 and under are FREE at Chunky’s (I love this…especially considering that half of my crew is under the age of 4).
  •  LEGO Millyard Project: Go check out the LEGO Millyard Project at the SEE Science Center!  Did you know that you can get into the SEE Science Center for FREE with a museum pass from your local library?  A library Museum Pass will admit one family (immediate family members only) to the SEE Science Center for free.  “The LEGO® Millyard Project is the largest permanent LEGO® installation at minifigure scale in the world. The project represents Manchester’s Amoskeag Millyard as it might have looked circa 1900. The Amoskeag Manufacturing Company was commonly recognized as the largest textile manufacturer in the world by 1915. The Amoskeag mill complex spanned over a mile on the east side of the Merrimack River and half a mile on the west side. This model represents a portion of the east side, along with part of downtown Manchester, the city that the Amoskeag company helped to build.”  My family loves the SEE Science Center!
  • LEGO Building Event: Barnes & Noble stores will host a fun and FREE hands-on Learning LEGO building event on Saturday, March 1st for fans of The LEGO Movie!  Space in this event is limited so please be sure to register in advance with your local Barnes and Noble store.  “During the event,  LEGO fans will assist the citizens of Bricksburg, the fictional city in the movie, by building a creative LEGO vehicle or device that can fight for justice and defeat Lord Business and his Micro Managers, the evil tyrants trying to take over the city. Participants will be allowed to take home their creations, along with a free copy of THE LEGO® MOVIE™  Adventure Builder Booklet. Barnes & Noble customers can also enjoy 30% off the LEGO Batman: The Movie – DC Super Heroes Unite DVD. This offer is available in all Barnes & Noble stores nationwide.”
  • LEGO Printables: Preschool through early elementary school age kids will enjoy these LEGOs Kindergarten Printables from 1+1+1=1 (this is a great blog for printables and activities).  I printed these out for my kids during one of our many recent snow storms….they had a blast with them.  This kept them very happy and very busy (and they were educational!).  Check out her LEGO pinterest board for more LEGO pinspiration!
  • LEGO Apps: The Lego Group has created and offers FREE LEGO Apps.  I downloaded a few and they are a HUGE hit!
  •  LEGO Books: Head over to your local library and check out some good LEGO books!  LEGO Medieval Adventures:Troll Attack has been very popular in my house for the past few weeks.  In fact, this is the one book that my son refuses to bring back to the library.  Hmm….I may have to add this to our collection as an Easter present.
